ABOUT CARRIE
Hi, I'm Carrie Fertig and I am passionate about making objects that speak to the heart. I started my business in Manhattan in 1986, when I sold to museum shops and design stores. Beginning with a jewellery line, the work expanded to include homewares and fashion accessories. In time I began to participate in retail shows. I studied in short courses over many years at Penland School of Crafts, learning different metalsmithing techniques.
In 2003 I moved to London, and soon after to Scotland. There I studied hot glass at Edinburgh College of Art and traveled the world to learn flameworking. I have been so fortunate to study with a generation of older master flameworkers in Lauscha, Germany, the home of this glassmaking technique.
Since 2004, the only place to buy my works was at the many craft shows I participated in the United States during Autumn. Now they are available in my online shop and through my stockists.
I also am an interdisciplinary artist working in performance, video, installation, and sculpture. Some of these artworks are on a monumental scale. Many of the items you will find in the shop are components of much larger artworks like the feathers which come from my site-specific installation Homing, a 6x5.5x5 meter pair of glass dove wings in Chichester Cathedral, and the icicles from Ausklingen (Fade Away) in the Veste Coburg, the castle in Germany Prince Albert is from.
Much of the work I do as an artist deals with topics very close to one's heart. It gives me great joy to be able to bring these ideas into small, deeply meaningful, collectible ornaments. They make ideal presents for those you hold most dear.
I'm always eager to hear from you, with a special request or if you have any questions. I'm always available by email.
